Get to Know the Russells
On September 8, 2001 Sam and Brie Russell made a life long commitment to each other during their wedding vows. Over their marriage they have welcomed three daughters and said farewell to family and friends young and old. Through triumph and tragedy the family grew and always remained thankful for their many blessings.
On June 28, 2007 life in the Russell home would forever change again. At the age of 28, Sam was thrown from his bike when the trail he was riding was changed unexpectedly. He suffered injuries at the C6 and T9 level of his spine. After hours of surgery Sam pulled through. Thankfully the family was blessed to find that the C6 break in his neck would not result in paralysis at that level, but his T9 paralysis remained. Sam does not have any feeling from his mid chest down. One of the hardest parts of the accident is that it was caused by Sam's life long love of biking.
Since Sam's accident life has been overflowing with challenges. He has focused his energy on healing and making the challenges a positive experience for his children and wife. Fionn (age 5), Neav (age 3) and Nori (age 1) have grown into amazing little ladies throughout this experience. They continue to graciously make many sacrifices for the good of the family as they continually piece back together the puzzle this new life.
I have written our story time and time again in my head. I, Brie Russell, am continually humbled by the experiences we have enjoyed and suffered since June 28th. We look forward to discovering our new normal in a home where Sam can begin to access the life experiences he had before his accident.
